Selia Yang was born in Seoul, South Korea, grew up in Toronto, Canada. She began designing evening and cocktail dresses by opening a shop on 9th Street under the “Garb New York”.
It didn’t take long for celebrities like Marisa Tomei and Tia Carrere to start snatching up her wares. As the boutique acquired a strong public following, Selia’s clients returned with requests for her to design their bridal gowns. Selia noted the lack of selection in this market and applied her concept of simple elegance to the world of bridal.
Her gowns were featured in Martha Stewart, Town & Country, New York Magazine, New York Times, Time Out among other publications. Her gown was chosen for the last shot in motion picture “Made of Honor” starring Michelle Monaghan and Patrick Dempsey. The Knot voted her “Best of Weddings,” Designers NYC.
“…No wonder her dresses have become so popular with both New York brides to be and women looking for that exquisite and unique dress that helps them light up a room when they enter.” — The Village Voice, The Best of NYC
